Styling a Pre-Existing Wig
The most common service I provide is styling a pre-existing wig into a style that resembles a character or design. A raw wig will be purchased and used. This is often the least expensive method.
Altering a Pre-Existing Wig
Sometimes a wig needs to be changed so it will meet the design expectations. This could be two or more pre-existing wigs being combined to create the one that will then be styled or a lace piece needs to be added and ventilated to create the illusion of a side shave, undercut, or other hairstyle.
Building a Wig From Scratch
Every now and then a client wants a wig that is made to fit their head perfectly. This is an age old technique that has been used for centuries. A head tracing can be made and used to build the wig foundation to fit exactly to size. The hair is then added to the foundation, either wefts sewn in or the hair is ventilated. Lastly the hair is styled. This is very expensive as it is very time consuming, but the results are unlike any other wig wearing experience you’ve had.
Making a Hair Piece
Sometimes all you need is a hair piece added to your own hair to complete a look. This can be as simple as a clip in ponytail that’s been styled or as complicated as fancy braids to clip in to complete something like a Viking inspired look.
Custom Color
Not every wig comes colored the way it needs to be. Both human and synthetic hair can be colored, but by using very different techniques. Examples of custom color jobs would be my Harley Quinn wig (blonde bob dip dyed half black and half red) and my friend’s Critical Role Opal (white wig airbrushed to look iridescent).
Touch Up/Restyle
If you’ve already purchased a wig from me and it needs to be touched up or restyled after being worn, it can be sent back and redone for a lower price than the original styling.
Wig Dictionary
Synthetic hair: the fiber is made of plastic. Synthetic wigs tend to hold their styling better due to not being affected by the weather and their color is more resistant to fading from the sun and lights. They often can be warped by heat so low to no heat is prefered when handling such wigs.
Human hair: this hair is in fact from a real human’s head! Hair is still cut and sold today. This hair will give the most realistic look, but can and will fade in the sun/lights and the style can be affected by weather such as rain and humidity. The hair can handle heat tools and chemical application such as color and perms, but can burn and be ruined.
Fully wefted wig: the wig is made up of tracks (wefts) of hair that are sewed to the wig foundation. The hair will lie in the direction that the wefts are sewn. Great for styles with full bangs and such where the edges of the wig will not be seen.
Fully hand-tied/ventilated: ventilation is the act of tying hairs individually into a lace wig. A fully hand-tied wig is exactly that: a wig that is completely ventilated. These wigs are the most realistic and have endless possibilities with styling. They are also the most expensive since ventilating is an extremely time consuming action.
Lace-front wig: these are wefted wigs with just the hairline and sometimes top being ventilated. They allow for more styling options around the hairline and are less expensive than a fully hand-tied wig.
